The scariest villains are clowns and sometimes sharks, but you know what's even scarier? A hacker with a Gibson.

1995 treated us to Sandra Bullock Oscar bait, The Net. Exposing the dangers of our steadily creeping dial-up connectivity, it scared the pants off all of us, and continues to teach children about the dangers of social media. That same year, Hackers put a face to that evil, played to perfection by the acclaimed Fisher Stevens.

"Kid, don't threaten me. There are worse things than death, and uh, I can do all of them."

I'm pretty sure he means computer things, because that's really what's in his wheelhouse, but the ambiguous rapeyness makes him that much scarier. Even if he's small, and rides a skateboard.

His evil plan was pretty well-worn territory, and he was ultimately foiled, but this is a character who will haunt our dreams for decades to come.

And he would've gotten away with it, if it weren't for those meddling kids.

Oh, and, um, hey!
