Some of my absolute favorite shows are anime. Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Baccano, Samurai Champloo, etc. All of these tell wonderful, compelling, and/or just straight up hilarious stories and I would happily recommend them to anyone. But there's one favorite of mine that I fully admit fails every test of what makes a good show, and yet I can't help but just love it: Dragon Ball Z.
I picked up Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods to watch tonight. It's probably just the huge dose of nostalgia being injected straight into my veins talking, but I loved it. It was literally an hour and a half straight of just people punching each other (and Vegeta acting like an idiot) but I had just the biggest grin on my face while watching it.
Dragon Ball Z introduced me to anime when I was a kid. I'm sure anyone who was a kid during the 90's and early 2000s can probably say the same (or swap it out with Sailor Moon). It had everything an 8-12 year old could want.
As an adult I can point out a million faults with it. Like the horrendous amount of filler, the new big bads constantly becoming so strong it makes the previous villains seem like utter weaklings. But I still love it and I can't wait to see the next movie.
Second Confession. This man is one of my favorite anime characters:
