Disclaimer: I love this week’s theme!
I have always been a voracious reader. As a result of this, I have visited many imagined and distant worlds. Out of the top of my head, I can list a few favorites:
-Lyra’s Oxford in His Dark Materials
-The bowels of Hell in The Scarlet Gospels
- Middle Earth in The Similarion
-LV-426 in Alien
-Narnia in The Chronicles of Narnia before I was betrayed when I realized that they were Christian propaganda
-New Jerusalem in The Monstrumologist
-Derry, Maine in a ton of Stephen King’s work (as well the Overlook Hotel in Colorado).
-Winterfell in Westeros
-The fantasy world of David’s books in The Book of Lost Things
-Avalon, from the various incarnations of the King Arthur myth
-A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....
EDIT: DIAGON ALLEY. As a Gryffindor prefect it’s shameful that I forgot that.
As a kid, I always kept a book nearby. As an adult, I still do, and have recognized reading as one of my favorite coping mechanisms. Although those that read fantasy and science fiction are sometimes maligned, I am not ashamed by my literature choices. There is only so much academic theory one can read. I am so looking forward to everyone’s takes on this weeks theme!
