Getting the best of you.

I am so worried about Beezus and Ramona. I’ve had them since they were kittens (3 years), but this year they’ve gotten in several fights that have resulted in separation for a few weeks each. (I’ve mentioned this on several posts before.)

The first time was in April when Ramona accidentally got outside in the front yard and smelled different. The second was in May when she came back from the vet. Last month they got in a fight (I don’t know why), and I had to go to the emergency room because Ramona bit me so bad. Today we were in the backyard and Beezus accidentally misstepped off a table and fell (no more than 2 feet). Ramona was on the ground and Beezus must’ve thought she made her fall, because Beezus started angry yowling and growling at her. That set off Ramona, and she came out with claws. Luckily, Ramona was on a leash and couldn’t catch Beezus when she hightailed it into the hostas. They are now separated again and I am back at square one.

I have Feliway plugged in, I’ve used calming collars, and I use gradual re-introduction. Just the other day I commented that they were giving each other baths again. I don’t understand why all of a sudden they turn on each other so quickly. Please help! Do you have any suggestions?? Do any of you give your pets anti-anxiety meds? I am going to talk with my vet today to see if that would be a viable option. I don’t know what to do, especially since I am going back to school in a few weeks and won’t be around all day for them. I am scared of leaving them alone.

ADDED: Thank you to everyone who has given advice! My vet said to up the dosage of the HomeoPet he gave the cats last time. The lady at the animal rescue said to keep them inside indefinitely and continue doing what I’ve been doing. It looks like they’ll be separated again for the week. :(
